my dad was invited to the world cup finals this year and gave the tickets to me and my brother, so we went to south africa for the first family holiday we've had together in like 5 years.

i've been actively following the world cup this year (trying to), and was really rooting for argentina, but they got eliminated in the quarterfinals so i had to choose another team to support and holland was an easy choice.

outside soccer city: wearing an orange (holland!) blazer by dkny (borrowed from the always reliable brandon seah), with a red/white/blue (netherland's flag colours) shirt by ck.

attending the match was really an experience in itself, and i even got to see one of my all-time idols - nelson mandela.

unfortunately spain won. i'm really not gonna argue about who played better (*cough* holland *cough*) because i think once you get behind a team, everything they do is just, fair game i guess? hahaa. but okay fine. holland was a little dirtier. but they played well. so.

anyway. it really was a once in a lifetime experience (although my brother has been to the last final as well. so i dont know why he keeps saying "once in a lifetime". it was for me at least.).

The Fendi ads for Spring/Summer 2010 are beautifully ethereal.
The last photo though, was a little weird because initially, it seems like she's wearing a lot of colorful Fendi bangles. Then it looked like it was a long glove or arm-warmer until you see that at the end where her fingers are supposed to be, it looks more like a stump. That is all before you realize her arm is actually wrapped up in a delicate piece of scarf with the rest of it floating behind blinded out by the light and movement. I don't know about you but that last photo always catches me off-guard.

The fashion show I was working on is finally over, and was a huge success. I wanted to share with you some photos from a photo shoot I organized/styled. I got to work with some amazing talents, like photographer Dai Mogi, who is also the art director for +ing, a Japanese magazine, and Aya Komatsu who did the make-up and who is probably one of the most stylish person I've ever met in my life. Of course I have to thank Takeo Suzuki, my hairstylist at Shizen NY, for helping me put all of this together, while working his usual magic in the models' hair.

Lastly, I am deeply grateful to designer Natsuki Nakano who kindly lend us her clothes to be photographed, and shown during the show. Her brand, OWL, has such an interesting yet classic, cool look that I am sure people will be grabbing her clothes off the rack when her Fall 2010 collection hits stores in New York this summer.

I've really grown to love Columbia and the area around Morningside Heights. We are spoiled for choice for parks to run in, we have a decent amount of good restaurants and cafes- Community! Kitchenette! The Heights! Orion's! Nussbaum!- and the neighbourhood is generally pretty safe. Oh, I'll really miss it here when I have to leave.

so, i thought this dress was kinda silly at first. i mean, who wants to wear a dress with that many slits down both sides. but when i saw the max azria spring '10 show on video, the way the dress flowed was pretty amazing. and imagine how cool it would feel wearing this on a blasted hot sunny day... well i couldn't get the idea out of my head. but, don't worry, i'm still holding my reservations out on this one... anyway, this dress is available on the bcbg site for $368.

After being wowed by her amazing artwork, I needed to own a piece from her collection, as well as replace my boringly similar jewelery collection. So I went ahead, bought one of her repurposed lego bracelets, and haven't looked back since.

I bought the Gotham bracelet because it was mostly black and i love the purple that contrasted with it. Also, I thought it would go really well with my issey miyake pete skirt, which seriously could use a very innovative piece of jewelry to match it to. One more selling point, it's nostalgic and super fun to be wearing something I used to play with everyday as a kid.

I'm a sucker for the beach. Few things make me happier than lying on a beach with clear blue water and white sand. And after an intense, and I mean INTENSE first half of the semester ( taking six classes had basically rendered me a walking zombie), the prospect of spending one week on the beach doing next to nothing was immensely appealing. So early Friday morning after a crazy, coffee-fueled past two weeks, three of my friends and I packed our bags and went off to Costa Rica. We mainly stayed at a condo in Los Suenos and our days were spent lazing by the beach, eating delicious guacamole and chips, hitting the gym, snorkeling, hiking, running, taking leisurely dips in the pool, the sea, the marina, anywhere with blue water, really. I strongly recommend the beach in the Manuel Antonio National Park as well as Lake Tortuguero, both of which were slices of paradise. The weather was gorgeous- hot and sunny, and I returned to New York feeling recharged like you wouldn't even believe it. I felt like I spent a month in Costa Rica instead of a week and I'm still running on a post vacation high. Looking back at these pictures, I can't believe I was there less than a week ago. -Hairin

an early 21st

hairin and fui are currently on their respective exotic spring break

vacations so i'm standing in as a guest blogger this week.

(me, in sunglasses, wearing a wolf shirt from union square, reminded me of christopher kane. haha)

i recently celebrated my 21st birthday at Capella Hotel and Resort in Sentosa, Singapore. the capella group launched the world's first six star hotel,

and the one located on our humble island didn't disappoint either.

i reserved a 2 bedroom villa with a private plunge pool and invited the boys over to spend the weekend.

the hotel provided chauffeur driven buggies to ferry their guests around, on top of complimentary champagne and snacks .

the hotel was really lush, and it was just perfect to celebrate the end of my army term as well as my 21st birthday.

in the evening, i held my dinner for 19 friends at the hotel's restaurant, The Knolls.

the past few birthdays, i've always worn shirts with loud prints, so i wanted to go in a different direction for my 21st.

so i turned to Singaporean label Antebellum which makes some of the most artful pieces of clothing. i found this amazing white shirt with an extended bib-esque appendage.

the highlight of the dinner was the cake, which was whimsical and fun,

sort of like a final nod to youth.

we continued to have champagne in the villa after dinner,

before heading to velvet for more festivities.

velvet was more fun than usual, with an appearance by a special bottle of moet.

i've never made it into a club on any of my previous birthday because i've always been too incapacitated to manage, so i was glad that i was able to maintain my dignity this year.

the next day, the boys and i headed to universal studios singapore to sample the rides and explore the park before the grand opening on the 18th of march (my actual birthday).

i've been dying to go to universal studios ever since it was announced, so it was a nice surprise when the boys informed me that they had gotten tickets in time to celebrate my birthday.

also, because it was a preview ticket, the park was not intensely crowded and wait times for rides were manageable and relatively short.

i have to say, our little version of universal studios did not disappoint. sure, it was significantly smaller and there were less rides, but the rides offered a variety of options for kids and adults that i found pretty damn exciting.

the personnel in the park were professional and helpful, and the shows were creative and quite spectacular.

it was pretty much the perfect end to a wonderful 21st celebration.

This past weekend my friends and I went to Calle Ocho, a Cuban restaurant on the Upper West Side to have dinner before one of them went off to Chile for study abroad. It was my second time there and it's hasn't disappointed both times.

It has flattering lighting, lively music, a good-looking crowd, good food, making for a captivating atmosphere. They serve this doughy bread before your meal filled with cheese and accompanied with a black bean dip which is so good, I had three last night. Their sangria is also delicious as is their food. Between all of us we had a soft taco platter with chipotle chicken, shrimp, grilled beef, guacamole, mushroom paella, salmon and snapper cerviche which we attacked before I even remembered I had a camera with me. I then had to improvise on outfit shots in the cab on the way back to school.

These heels are awesome because you can wear them two ways: the outer layer is attached via simple buttons on the front and under the heel, so you can remove it and it becomes a simple, sexy pair of nude stilettos. But with the outer layer, you get a futuristic geometrical outline instead.

I was invited to the Japan Fashion Week in Soho by my hairstylist, Takeo. It was held in a newly renovated loft on Mercer Street, and the event was part of New York Fashion Week as Designer Preview in New York. The music by Alex from Tokyo was awesome, and I thought the spotlight showcasing each brands on the hardbrick walls were a nice finishing touch to the whole cool downtown vibe. The most ogle-worthy though, were the Japanese-designed clothes specially flown in for the show. The models walked out of the arched passage ways in threes in the beautiful clothes for all to drool.

The concept of "Personal Timeless Perfection" for his line is can be admired through his feminine cuts and elegant details, that are never too stuffy, but done just right for a modern, sensual appeal. Konishi is really approachable and friendly, willing to give you the time of his day to answer any questions you have for him. -fui

Some of you have asked where's a good place in New York to get a great haircut. Since Hairin and I recently got some thingamagic done to our hair, I decided to blog about it.

Shizen NY, on 627 East 6th (between Ave B and C) is a Japanese hair salon. Their original store, The Oversea, is located in Tokyo's hip Aoyama. All the stylists do freelancing work in New York, contributing to fashion shows, editorial work and magazines like Purple Magazine, Nylon, Journal, Jacques and the newly-launched LUV to name a few. You can check out the stylists' portfolios and profiles on their website: NYSHIZEN. They also have a blog where they update from time to time on the fashion events and art galleries going around in New York.

A haircut costs $65, but there's a 10% discount for students. I must add that their hair coloring services is superb, having done some coloring myself, and walking away totally satisfied. The stylists are all honest in their opinions on what's best for your hair, so they won't make you do triple highlights just so that they can get more out of you, and would recommend you products they themselves have been using for years, which you can buy at the salon.

The salon itself is a beautiful space, with an organic but warm touch. My hairstylist is Takeo, he was working in Tokyo for 8 years, and London for another 2, before coming to New York in 2008. I recommend making an appointment 1 week in advance, especially for the weekends, because it can get quite busy.

The weather this weekend in New York is brutal but I digress. I wore this out during my last Sunday brunch in Singapore. The top is from about five years ago I think and it was one of my first purchases from net-a-porter. I remember loving almost everything in this Matthew Williamson collection. Thought it would be kinda cool to share my ring collection. These are merely the tip of an iceberg, but they're my favourites. I'm never without a ring (unless I'm drawing or doing some form of 'hard labour'), but nowadays I'm into wearing four or five at a time. Yeah, I have an obsession.

The One that Started it All: designed by my mom and originally set with diamonds and amethyst. I requested she swap the amethyst for onyx and give it to me. And she did.

Pardon the quality of the pictures and the crappy NY apartment lighting. It's the first day of spring semester of my junior year and I'm so nervous about school starting again, I can't even begin to fathom why. It's always a funny feeling being in NY for the first week after spending some time back home. I feel like I've been jerked out of some carefree alternate reality to find myself in an entirely new world with completely different people and social conventions. Not to mention trying to get used to the different time zone. Anyway, my first class, Development Economics begins in about an hour and I guess it's nice to have a later start to the day after my 9am classes throughout the past year and a half. Went for a run with my sister yesterday morning to the Botanic Gardens and around town. I'm trying to rack up as many miles as I can before heading back to the freezing cold in NY where I definitely won't be able to do any running outside. This top was one of the very few purchases from Portsea. I still don't know how I feel about cropped tops... I thought this was an ideal beach cover up and it was also good to slump around the house in yesterday.. along with the jeans which I accidentally bought a size too big. Fooling around in my sister's bedroom this morning while deciding what to wear today. Went to the storeroom to look for footwear options and found this pair of YSL tributes from the first season they made them . I was absolutely in love with them after coming across pictures of Victoria Beckham pairing hers with a short black dress, a new blonde cropped hairdo and David Beckham in a suit. My mom found this pair(the last one!) from a YSL boutique in Milan- the YSL stores in Singapore carry few styles upwards of a size 38 and I remember feeling crushed when the sales assistants told me that none of the stores in Asia would have a pair in my size. This might just be my favourite pair of shoes and it's a pity that I don't go out or wear heels often enough to justify bringing them back with me to New York. I bought the dress from Zara in Singapore four years ago and it's been a versatile wadrobe option since. The silver pearl bracelet is from the St Kilda flea market in Melbourne which my Dad got me ten years ago. My mom gave both my sister and I the black band with a single silver charm when she came back from Hong Kong and the headband was a Christmas gift from my friend Ivan. -Hairin

I usually spend winter vacations with my family at the apartment in Portsea, off the coast of Melbourne in Australia. This year, we were there for a week a did plenty of lazing around by the beach, reading, swimming, cooking and eating. Sorrento, a a busier town next to Portsea has THE best fish and chips, in all its deep-fried, beer-battered glory and we also had the best strawberry sundae I've ever tasted. A highlight was also running in Point Napean Park, a 22km run along a stretch of road on cliffs which gloriously overlooked the sea. My parents and I went early in the morning, it was drizzling and the park was completely deserted. Running there, so close to nature, was close to being one of the best feelings in the world. With every breath I took, I could feel my lungs greedily fill itself with the fresh, slightly salty air and it was such a welcome change from the pollution I've gotten used to from living in the city. I've taken plenty of beach holidays but there's something about Australia's beach culture that makes the time we spend at Noose in Brisbane or Portsea in Melbourne top holidays to even Maldives and Bali. I only managed to take two full length outfits shots but every day was pretty much tees, cut-offs and tank dresses. Above are some snapshots of our time there.

About two weeks ago, Fui and I had lunch at the MOMA's Michelin star restaurant, The Modern, with a few of our friends who were visiting from home. I thought the food was alright but the setting was great- the restaurant was bright despite the cloudy day due to the large windows and there was a power-lunch hour feel to the restaurant.

I could tell that the food was of high quality but I'm really easygoing when it comes to food so I'll just let the pictures do the talking. I do remember that they gave us complementary butternut squash panna cotta before lunch and petit fours after lunch. For our mains, a couple of us had the monkfish while the rest had roast chicken and for dessert were a type of mango brioche pudding and an extremely delectable hazelnut gateau.

Fui wore an asymmetrical cutout top from preen with a uniqlo thermal tee underneath

I wore a generra gold sequin jacket bought two years ago from Tokio7, my trusty striped zara tunic and american apparel leggings.

It is still an upsetting week with news update on Daul's death, and reports from her friend who IM-ed her right before she hung herself... Her blog has also been changed to "invite only" status right now for investigation purposes. Still this sinking sadness every time I see her photos around.

That said, Happy Thanksgiving to you all, and I hoped you had a good one. We celebrated it at Hotel Gansevoort in Meatpacking District and had takeout from Pastis which was right beside the hotel. The food was amazing, even though it didn't look too great seeing that they were right out of the takeout boxes.

Just saw some amazing photos from the newly launched biannual Twin Magazine with Freja Beha Erichsen (featured 2 posts ago in amazing biker jacket). The magazine is created by former Lula editor Rebecca Smith and the editorial is shot by Boo George (via Fashion Gone Rouge).

She is such an amazing model too, like Daul, they have their own thing going on which is so inspirational and yet, very necessary because they add so much more personality in the fashion world. And I think I just might actually like the video more than the editorial <3.

I've had my eye on this jacket for a few years now. It may be a little overexposed around the fashion circuit but it really is the perfect leather jacket.
